Slots that Raised Controversy on Their Release

Online slots have enjoyed such rampant success since their introduction at the turn of the 20th century that they have already become by far the most popular gambling game in the world, and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of this slowing down either. Back in the late 1800s a tech savvy Californian engineer called Charles D. Fey created the Liberty Bell machine, and just over a century later his blueprint can be found in tens of thousands of different slot games all around the world.

Obviously Mr Fey is to thank for being the first person to truly popularise slot machine gambling, however in the modern era it is all down to the incredible work put in by online slot developers such as NetEnt, Microgaming or Eyecon. These slot developers have ensured that the online slot industry like Immortal Romance continues to grow at a stratospheric rate, something all gamblers will be thankful for. Read on for a few slots that have raised controversy on their release.

OMG! Kittens

We all know how successful online slots that use a nostalgic childhood theme can be, just look at the Eyecon classic online slot Fluffy Favourites, for instance. There is just something about the innocent world of childhood, and it is this that led to the development of a slot called OMG! Kittens approximately a decade ago.

Now, it doesn’t take a genius to work out what the overall theme of OMG! Kittens is – kittens, duh! Unfortunately for this game it was quickly decided that, if anything, it was a little too cute, so much so that kids were being drawn to play it. In fact, one kid even managed to give the reels a spin using his dad’s credit card!

Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Batman film starring the late Heath Ledger and Christian Bale amongst others was a box office smash hit motion picture upon its release, with director Christopher Nolan receiving critical acclaim for the general narrative and filmography. There should be no surprise that online slot developers were very quick to create slot games out of the film, with the Dark Knight being one of the most famous.

As it turns out the Dark Knight slot was actually pretty damn good, perfectly rendering some of the most exciting aspects of the film in the form of a good old online slot. In fact, one lucky Australian even managed to win approximately $10 million whilst spinning the reels on the Dark Knight! Unfortunately, however, the slot was discontinued quite soon into its existence due to licensing issues.

Space Diggers

Playtech are regularly talked about in the same vein as absolutely top tier online slot developers such as NetEnt and Microgaming, so it is surprising to see an online slot game from them in this list of controversial online slot game releases.

The reason behind this was because of a new Game Modifier feature that was lauded as being a cool way to give online slots flexible RTPs, but in reality it just meant that online casino sites were free to set it themselves.
